Name: TCD 01
Measure
Making the best use of Cultural and Natural Resources
Sub-Measure
Built Heritage.
Aims
To restore these buildings to economic use
To improve the local environment
To retain buildings of historical and/or architectural use
Actions
Grant packages to a maximum of £15,000 will be offered (to a maximum of 50% of eligible costs) for the restoration of disused buildings with historical or architectural merit. It is thus intended to bring these valuable and important buildings back into everyday use. All applicants must demonstrate a definite and immediate use for the restored building i.e. they cannot be assisted for “speculative projects”. These must be for commercial use (not accommodation, retail or distribution) and can be either in villages or in the countryside. Those projects which can demonstrate the creation of additional employment will be prioritised.

Only a limited number of grant packages are available and these will be offered on a competitive basis.

Rationale

North Antrim has a number of buildings which are derelict but which have historical or architectural merit and which could be restored. It is proposed to grant aid the restoration so that the buildings could be made available for use by trading businesses.

Specific Criteria

• Must have historical and/or architectural interest

• Must be used for commercial activity (not retail, accommodation or distribution)

• Must create at least one new job or demonstrate potential to do so

• Must have all statutory requirements (planning, building control, etc)
